Project Overview Map

Capacity
Once complete in late 2010, the Prairie Waters Project will increase Aurora’s water supply by 20 percent; delivering up to 10 thousand acre-feet (about 3.3 billion gallons) of water per year. An acre-foot is 325,861 gallons, or enough water to supply two families of 4 for one year.

Purification
The project’s water is initially purified naturally through a unique riverbank filtration process. Then the water travels to a new state-of-the-art purification facility near the Aurora Reservoir.
