Ultraviolet Equipment Delivered to PBWPF

Workers at the Peter D. Binney Water Purification Facility (PBWPF) received a special delivery in January of 2009 as a convoy of semis began arriving at the site with ultraviolet generators and associated equipment for the new purification facility. The deliveries marked a significant milestone for the project as a major component for the facility’s water purification is now at the site. About 14 semis loaded with the approximately 14 foot-long shiny tubes were carefully driven to an unloading area where cranes hoisted the nearly 4,000 pound units into the UV building. Now that the equipment is onsite and unloaded, work to finish the ultraviolet building will continue and workers can begin equipment installation.

Advanced ultraviolet oxidation is an important part of Aurora Water’s multiple-step water purification process for the Prairie Waters Project—Aurora Water’s project to help drought harden the water system through bringing the city’s existing South Platte River water resources online by 2010. Once operational, high intensity ultraviolet rays will destroy unwanted contaminants, including trace amounts of chemical, viruses and other compounds.
